BUCHAREST, Romania (AP):

Romanian organised crime prosecutors say about 90 persons have been charged for online fraud against 1,000 people, many of them Americans, amounting to $20 million (€14.2 million).

Prosecutors say more than 110 house searches were conducted yesterday in nine Romanian cities.

They say about 1,000 people have been cheated online by transferring money in response to false ads for goods such as cars, motorbikes, boats and electronics. The organised crime fraudsters used false identities and then transferred the sums to Romania.

Prosecutors say investigators on this case are working with US authorities.
