Carter, Spence, Stewart win in Italy

There were three Jamaican winners at the Atletica Mondiale meet in Padova, Italy on Sunday.

Nesta Carter, who ran a personal best 9.78 seconds last year, led a Jamaican sweep of the top three places in the men's 100 metres.

Carter, an Olympic sprint relay gold medallist, won in 10.10 seconds from MVP Club teammate Michael Frater, 10.31 and Jacques Harvey, 10.35. Trinidad and Tobago's Marc Burns was forth in 10.38.

The men's 400 metres was won in 46.34 by former national champion Lansford Spence. He finished ahead of Britain's Martin Rooney, 46.36 and South Africa's Oscar Pistorius, 46.65.

In the women's 200 metres Olympic 100m silver medallist Kerron Stewart, 23.04, defeated fellow Jamaican Anneisha McLaughlin, 23.26 and American Joanna Atkins, 23.26. Another Jamaican, Sherone Simpson, was fourth in 23.29.

World champion Brigitte Foster Hylton placed fifth in the women's 100 metres hurdles in 13.29 seconds.

Americans took the top three spots, Nia Ali won in 12.98, Yvette Smith was second in 13.09 and Loreal Smith, third in 13.11.
