Rosemount, Fogo,and First Choice all champions

Three new champions were crowned on Sunday night when the curtains came down on the 2011 St James FA Claro Major League and Division One and the Steve Bucknor Masters League with an intriguing triple-header at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay.

At the end of the night's excitement, Rosemount Gardens emerged Division One champions with a 3-1 penalty shoot-out win against Norwood after they had played out a regulation and extra-time 3-3 stalemate. Fogo took the Senior League crown with a 1-0 win against Little Miami, while First Choice defeated Challenger 2-0 to win the Steve Bucknor Masters title.

In the Division One final, it was an absolutely intriguing affair as Norwood took the lead three times on the back of a hat-trick by Roshane Reid only to see Rosemount storming back on each occasion through David Scott, André Williams, and Calvin Beckford to make the score 3-3 after 120 minutes of action.

In the subsequent penalty shoot-out, Rosemount proved the more composed of the two teams, scoring three of the four spot-kicks while Norwood were on target only once. Ironically, Reid was among the players who missed for Norwood.

Sweet victory

"I believe we showed a lot of character in coming from behind three times to send the game into a penalty shoot-out," said Rosemount's coach Barrington Brooks. "This is sweet victory and there will be a lot of celebrations tonight."

In the Senior League second-leg final between Fogo and Little Miami, the pattern was much the same. The first leg came to a 0-0 draw before Obrian Robinson capitalised on a horrific goalkeeping blunder to give Fogo their 1-0 win and the coveted title.

"This win is very good for us because, as you can see, we are in a rebuilding phase. Today, we even had a father-and-son pair (Alme and Alex McFarlane) out there," said Oniel Gallimore, the coach of Fogo United. "This shows that our rebuilding programme is on track."

The lone goal of the game came mid-way the second half when Robinson got away before the goal and miskicked, but to the absolute amazement of all, the ball gently rolled past the Little Miami custodian, making the final score 1-0.

In the Steve Bucknor Masters final, star-studded First Choice justified their favourites tag as goals from Daniel Rickettes and Alme McFarlane gave them a 2-0 win over a courageous Challenger, who had held them scoreless for 83 minutes.

"It was a good game and we believe we are deserving winners," said Daniel Rickettes, who had an excellent game in midfield for First Choice. "We have been the best team all season. We deserve to win this title."
