Lake wins Hi-Pro final

Adam Lake, aboard Alexis Pegasus, rode an impressive clear round to clinch the coveted Hi-Pro trophy as the overall winner in the final of the three competitions on Sunday, July 3 at the Kingston Polo Club and Equestrian Centre.

Determined to win after placing second by one point for the first two competitions, Lake displayed a level of focused horsemanship to finally place first in the third competition to claim the overall championship title with an accumulated 28 points.

His main rival, Johnathan Vaz on Shabba Ranks, placed second with 26 points, and Jason Walter third on his mount Shambal with 22 points. Lake is coached by Betty Wates of Ponderosa, who is also the Equestrian Federation of Jamaica vice-president.

Jump-offs are always exciting when it comes down to two riders competing for second place as it was in this the third Hi-Pro competition.

Justin Vaz, on Cassanova, and Frankie Chin, on Jiggy, both came into the jump-off with four faults. Chin did an amazing clear round showing 'girl power' in a time of 49.95 seconds to place second and Vaz, although with a faster time 47.04 seconds, ended with 11 faults to place third for this leg of the competition.

This weekend, the low, medium, high and super league will take place on Sunday, July 24 at the Kingston Polo Club and Equestrian Centre starting at 9 a.m. There will be free pony rides for kids from 10 a.m.-noon before great showjumping in the finals of the Equestrian Federation Of Jamaica's League. Admission is free.
