Generals, Springs for Lime Cup

The stage is set for what promises to be an exciting and intense golfing exhibition between the favourites Advantage Generals and the JustBet Springs, as the curtains begin to close on this year's LIME Cup team match-play golf championships at the exquisite Cinnamon Hill Golf Course in Rose Hall, Montego Bay, this Saturday.

Home team, the Advantage Generals, will be looking to put their experience and familiarity of the Cinnamon Hill course to good use, as they look to turn the tide after two years of playing second fiddle to outgoing champions, The Buccaneers of Appleton Estate, who themselves will be engaged in the third-place contest with the SportsMax MaxPak.

Championship match

The fifth- and sixth-place decider will be settled between the Lime Lions and the Pan Caribbean Jaguars. All consolation matches will tee off at 11 a.m. with the championship match teeing off 30 minutes later.

All things considered, there is little surprise that the JustBet Springs, led by Tommy Smith, are entering this final showdown as the huge underdogs. However, that is a title that Smith is more than happy to embrace. In fact, the national representative believes that his team is sure to benefit from its status going into the highly anticipated clash.

"We expected to be in the finals and we projected that we would be playing them (Advantage Generals) on their home course," said Smith. "We are coming from a point where we have nothing to lose. All the pressure and advantage is with them; they are a good team that has been to the finals, they are playing on their home course, so it's a foregone conclusion to everyone and I don't think that anyone is giving us a chance, and that in itself is a major point of motivation for us."

Smith underlines that his team is fully focused going into the contest and is banking on their 'secret weapon' of team chemistry and unity to lift them over their fancied foes.

The Advantage Generals ended the preliminary round with maximum 15 points, after dismissing all comers, while the JustBet Springs enter the fray after holding off the Buccaneers of Appleton Estate with nine points of their own.
