Wray & Nephew pool tourney ends today
The Wray & Nephew White Overproof all-island five-a-side pool tournament comes to an end today with the playing of the finals at Hot Shots Pool Bar, 103 Constant Spring Road.
Prior to the final, the last eight teams will contest the quarter-finals starting at noon, followed by the semis.
Last Saturday, the unbeaten Chelsea Strikers from Kingston blanked Clarendon-based The Spot 3-0 to advance to the quarter-finals, unbeaten Chelsea Seals beat Mystix Imports 3-1. Upper Level from Mandeville beat Bombay Lounge 3-1, while Mystix Knights from Hagley Park Road clipped Georges from May Pen 3-2 and Hot Shots Fury defeated Spot One 3-2 after trailing 2-0.
The draw for today's quarter-finals starting at noon pits the unbeaten MoBay Proper A with the island's top-rated player Noel 'Schoolboy' Blagrove, against another unbeaten team, Chelsea Seals, in a tough draw.
The other pairings are Chelsea Strikers vs Georges, Kendan from MoBay vs Upper Level and MoBay Proper B vs Hot Shots Fury.
The winning team will receive a whopping $250,000 and the Wray & Nephew Trophy, second $100,000, third $50,000 and fourth $20,000.

SVL national pool champs tomorrow
The Supreme Ventures-sponsored Jamaica Billiards Association National Pool Championship, featuring the top 32 players in the island, takes place tomorrow at Hot Shots Pool Bar, 103 Constant Spring Road, starting at noon.
The draw for the first four matches will see former top-ranked player Ewart Hall of Hot Shots vs Demar Parsons, the island's top-rated player Noel 'Schoolboy' Blagrove from Montego Bay vs Shawn Colley, Gary Manning vs Anthony 'Balkey' Davis, and Elvis Newman vs Ocheign 'Jimmy' Carlos.
At stake are the winner's prize of $90,000 and trophy, while the runner-up will receive $40,000 and third $20,000.
In all, 32 matches will be played during the one-day championships. The latest rankings were based on the 2010 Cal's pool tour which saw three of the seven tournaments going to Noel 'Schoolboy' Blagrove from Montego Bay.

Wray & Nephew skittles round-up
Former champions Eastern All-Stars clipped defending champions Eagles 6-5 in a crucial Zone A match in the Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum skittles competition at Hangover in Portmore (near MegaMart) last Sunday.
Eastern led 5-3 after eight games, but Eagles clawed their way back to level the scores at 5-5. However, Eastern All-Stars were not to be denied, as Steve Thompson defeated Emmanuel Munda in the deciding game to give his team victory.
In other matches played last Sunday, Starliner also clipped Rowe's Strikers 6-5, Waltham Strikers gained a walkover from Dragon, Mystix Lady Strikers whipped Olympic Strikers 9-2, Willies Strikers crushed The Dip 10-1 and Mister C beat Hangover for the second time this season by a 10-1 scoreline.
Tomorrow's matches will see Starliner vs Eagles in the feature at Mister C Skittles Club, Mister C vs Zone 'B' leaders Willies Strikers at the same venue, while Waltham will face Mystix Strikers at Waltham, Eastern vs Dragon also at Waltham, Hangover vs The Dip in their battle of Portmore clash at Hangover, and Lady Strikers vs Mercury, also at Hangover, Mega Way in Portmore. Matches commence at 1 p.m.

Wisynco unbeaten in BH football
Leaders Wisynco qualified for the semi-finals of the KSAFA/Western Sports Business House Division I football league last Saturday when they defeated former champions Scotiabank 1-0 at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Wisynco broke the deadlock through former St Georges Premier League player Girvan Brown, who netted in the 75th minute.
Brown, who The Gleaner understands will switch to Highgate in the upcoming Premier League season, came back to score for Wisynco again in their 1-0 over UWI at Mona on Tuesday, notching his ninth goal of the season in the 66th minute, to be the leading scorer in Division I.
Wisynco, who are unbeaten in seven matches, lead the standings with 17 points to already qualify for the semi-finals, along with Petrojam (14 points).
The two other semi-final spots should see Carib Cement (12 points), NWC (10), The Gleaner (nine), UWI (eight) and Scotiabank (seven) vying for those spots. The Gleaner have three matches remaining, the others two.
In other Division I matches played in the past week, Cement drubbed Wray & Nephew 4-0 last Saturday, while defending champions Petrojam clipped Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) 1-0 with a second half goal from David Stultz.
In Division II action, GraceKennedy and NHT drew 1-1 at Jesse Ripoll on Tuesday, while JNBS beat NCB 2-0 with a brace from Jair Minott at Barbican. Unbeaten Jamaica Customs lead Division II with 19 points from seven matches to already qualify for the semi-finals.
In today's Division I matches, The Gleaner oppose Wray & Nephew at Winchester Park, NWC vs Petrojam at Great House Boulevard, Carib Cement vs NMIA at Bull Pen, and UWI vs Scotiabank at Mona. All matches start at 4 p.m.

LIME's Allison slams BH century
LIME's opening batsman Omar Allison highlighted the sixth round of the Reggae Jammin Business House 50-over league last Sunday with an attacking century (130) against Continental Baking Company at Jamaica College.
Allison, the only player to score a double century last season to top the batting averages and secure a number of awards at the recent presentation dinner, spearheaded LIME to an impressive 194-run win.
Batting first, LIME raced to 325 for five off their allotted 50 overs - Allison hitting 13 fours in his century innings, Shawn Lodge Jr 56, national player Horace Miller 53 and former Jamaica youth player Yannick Elliott 50 not; Kenny Isaacs 2-29. Continental Baking Company replied with 131 off 29.3 overs - Phillip Biggs 35, Oneil Weir 22; Elliott taking 7-31, Damion Jacobs 3-7.
AT SPRING VILLAGE: NWC scored a notable upset, beating defending champions Jamaica Broilers by 85 runs. NWC 182 for eight off 50 overs - Duran Whyte 49, Linton Martin 31; Stephen Casey 2-22, Robert Turner 2-34. Broilers were skittled for 97 off 20.7 overs - A. Bailey 26, Andre Henry 17; Fabian Forbes 5-46, Oneil Wright 4-29.
AT RED STRIPE: Digicel beat Red Stripe by three wickets. Red Stripe 145 off 33.5 overs - former national player Wayne Cuff 58; Shane Brooks 6-34. Digicel 149 for five off 34.5 overs - Jowayne Robinson 39, Kerry Scott 27; Arlington Whittick 2-33.
AT CHALMERS AVENUE: NHT defeated Sagicor by two wickets. Sagicor 206 off 48-1 overs - Christopher Thompson 84, Kemar Marshall 60; Shawn-Lee Earle 5-38. NHT 208 for eight off 35 overs - Shacoya Thomas 60, Antowine Stephenson 36; national player Akeem Dwyer 4-45, Paul Harrison 2-41.

The Gleaner beat UTech in basketball
The Gleaner defeated UTech 30-21 in Division II of the 3-on-3 basketball competition on Wednesday at the Stadium Courts to remain in contention for a place in the quarter-finals.
The Gleaner, who dictated the run of play for most of the match, saw their captain Omar Wolfe getting a game high 24 points. He was supported by Joe Harris and Jermaine Bailey, along with substitutes Ricardo Blackstock and Derval Davis.
On Monday, The Gleaner found themselves on the receiving end, beaten 35-28 by UDC. The Gleaner have won three of their five matches so far, losing to UDC and National Baking Company.

Royal Lakes aim at Ravensworth
Defending champs and Zone A leaders, Royal Lakes (eight points), will take aim at second-place Ravensworth (six points) in the St Catherine FA Under-17 Football League this afternoon at Lime Tree Grove field in Lakes Pen. The Anthony Bimmer-coached team will call on the services of leading goalscorer Romario Constant, who has scored 10 goals in four matches to lead their victory charge. In other games in Zone A, Tryall Heights take on De la Vega City at De la Vega City field, Village Linx (three points), play New Raiders (three points) at the Lasco Oval. All games begin at 4 p.m. In matches played last Wednesday in Zone C, zone leaders Albion (nine points) thrashed Angels 4-0, Black Lions (seven points) blanked Meadows 3-0, while Ensom City drew 1-1 with Flamingo.

Bridgeport, Washington in SDC cricket final
Former parish champs Bridgeport should start favourites as they take on the ever-improving
In last week's semi-finals, Bridgeport easily dispatched Belmont by 36 runs. Robert Weir, 78, and former Jamaica batsman Delroy Morgan, with 51, made most runs for Bridgeport, while Washington upset Pines by six wickets as Gavaska Brown smashed 67.

Portmore set to continue goal feast
Portmore United look set to continue their goal feast as they take on Daytona in one of eight matches in the Pines Imaging Centre-sponsored Portmore Under-17 Football League this afternoon at 1:00 at the Christian Pen field.
Portmore will be hard to beat this season as they have acquired the services of National Under-17 player Cardel Benbow. Benbow scored six times as Portmore United hammered Braeton United all of 18-0 in the opening round last Sunday at the Ferdie Neita Park in Braeton. Defending champions Wanderers thumped Cedar Grove 8-0 as Samar Rowe scored four times. In the second game at the venue, Watson Grove take on wounded Braeton United.

Colours hunt final berth
Favourites Colours International take on Reid's Pen at the Portsmouth ground in a semi-final match of the Milo-sponsored
However, the feature match of the day pits defending champions Ken's Wildflower against former champions Portsmouth at the Bridgeport sports ground. Portsmouth have beaten five teams in the competition and only lost once. That was to Colours, the team most clubs fear at this stage of the league. On the other hand, Ken's Wildflower have had an up-and-down season, batting well against Washington CC, making over 200 runs one week and crumbling to a 12-run defeat against Hamilton Gardens another week. Both games will begin at 11. The final is scheduled for next Sunday at the Bridgeport ground.

George North in second round
Defending champions George North dropped points for the first time but were still confirmed as the first team to the second round of the New Testament Church of God Cobbla Church Football League.
Having won their first three games, George North were held to a 1-1 draw by Gully Strikers. Kenroy Mullings scored for Gully Strikers while Francois Swaby, who plays for Sporting Central in the Premier League, replied for the champions.
The second game at the Cobbla Youth Camp grounds, where the competition is being hosted, produced a 2-1 win for Roose Madrid over Contrivance. David Downs scored twice for the winners while Devon Broomfield netted the consolation for the losers.
Points standings so far: George North lead Zone One on 10 points, followed by Gully Strikers (6 pts). Spring Ground lead Zone Two on seven points, with Church United next on five.
In an effort to facilitate the speedy conclusion of the preliminary round, three games will be played instead of the customary two.
Games on tomorrow: Lazio vs Spring Ground; Napoli vs Richmond; and Clandon Strikers vs George North.

Lloyd Plummer Memorial League
The Institute of Sports-sponsored Lloyd Plummer Memorial football league kicked off last Sunday at the West Park Community field in May Pen, Clarendon.
The competition is played in honour of Lloyd Plummer, the former Clarendon FA president, community liaison officer and youth football enthusiast who passed away a few years ago. Ten teams drawn from the central Clarendon region, where Plummer was most active, are participating.
Zone One comprises Cemetery Road, Bushy Park, Bucknor, Streetside and Treadlight. In Zone Two are Race Track, West Park, Galaxy, Little Brazil and New Roadsville.
In last week's kick-off, Cemetery Road blanked Bushy Park 3-0 while Race Track edged West Park 1-0.
The competition continues tomorrow with a double-header at West Park: New Roadsville vs Race Track; and Treadlight vs Cemetery Road.

Jamalco football league
The 2011 season of the Jamalco-sponsored summer football league kicked off with an opening parade of all 16 competing teams and two matches.
Following the dress parade where all teams were presented with match and practice balls, Leo Lambert, Jamalco's corporate affairs manager, announced sponsorship of $1.5 million.
In the afternoon's opening game, last year's beaten finalists, Top Hill, registered a 3-1 win over Hunts Pen. The second game saw defending champions New Bowens defeating home side Wembley 2-0. The third scheduled game between Invincible and Juventus was not played until the following day at the same venue. Juventus, with two goals from Rohan Daley, rallied to win 3-1.
The competition continues today and tomorrow with double-headers at Wembley field.
Today: South Manchester vs Mocho; Mineral Heights vs Napoli.
Tomorrow: Top Halse Hall vs Port; and Raymonds vs Railroad.

Clarendon win Juici Patties Confed U-15
Clarendon dethroned St Catherine as the Under-15 champions of the Juici Patties Confed league with a resounding come-from-behind 4-1 win at Prison Oval on Wednesday.
With outstanding return matches against St Elizabeth and Manchester whom they have both beaten in the first round, Clarendon have an unassailable 12 points from four games. The 4-1 win followed up the 3-0 win over Manchester at West Park last Saturday.
The race remains open for the Under-13 championship. St Catherine, who lost their first two games, have since rallied to defeat both St Elizabeth and Clarendon. They now lead that division on six points, one more than St Elizabeth. Manchester follow on four points.
The competition continues today with Manchester hosting St Catherine and Clarendon hosting St Elizabeth. Two teams from each division will contest the national play-offs involving other confed winners and runner-ups.

Juici Patties Clarendon Senior/Junior Netball League
Jamalco and Hayes All Stars both secured important wins in their respective top-of-the-table matchups of the Juici Patties Clarendon Senior and Junior League.
In the senior division, Jamalco stopped Windalco 46-45, while Hayes All Stars outmatched Ricam Strikers of Mandeville in the feature Junior league match. Veteran Elaine Davis was the crucial anchor in Jamalco's close win over their arch-rivals - both teams coached by the same person, Winston Nevers.
Davis scored 36 of 39 attempts and was by far the most accurate shooter on display. Her opposite number, Denene Taylor, was woeful at the hoop, netting 23 of 33 attempts, while Tracy Ann Robinson scored 22 from 28. The game was a see-saw effort throughout with the first quarter going to Jamalco 13-12, Windalco winning the second 24-21, before Davis' amazing consistency secured the third quarter 36-35 and the match 46-45.
