Scrap metal industry - Our depravity has no boundaries

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The level of thievery in Jamaica is astonishing. We seem to be on a road to self-destruction. The current scrap metal scandal is evidence of this.

Our depravity seems to have no boundaries. It is sad that public and private property is being stolen and sold. It is even more disgusting that innocent lives are being put at risk in the name of greed, or so that man 'can eat a food'.

The long list of corruption and selfishness continues to grow: FINSAC, Cash Plus and other Ponzi schemes, Trafigura, 'Dudus' extradition, non-transparent government contracts and questionable sale of government lands, political effort to emasculate the Office of the Contractor General, tribal gangsterism and garrison politics. We have little to celebrate as another Independence Day approaches.
