Transport and Works minister Mike Henry is expressing regret at the manner in which two Clarendon youngsters died last Wednesday, in a car crash in New Kingston, leaving another in critical condition.

The police attributed the accident to a high-speed race gone bad between two drivers on Trafalgar Road.

Henry noted that the tragedy hit home to him in a major way. He said with the 'Below 300' target for road fatalities being pursued relentlessly by the police, the Road Safety Unit in the Transport Ministry, and the National Road Safety Council, it was most unfortunate that such an unnecessary tragedy took place.

"Things may happen on the roads, but from all indications, it was a really reckless activity that resulted in the tragedy among the youngsters who, to the contrary, were all known to be bright, progressive individuals," said the minister.

The youngsters hail from the minister's Central Clarendon constituency. The deceased, D'Angelo Young and Dayne Lawson, both 22, along with Lawson's cousin, Daniel Lawson who has been hospitalised with serious injuries, hail from prominent families in May Pen and Four Paths in Clarendon, respectively.
