MIAMI (CMC):

Up to yesterday morning, Tropical Storm Emily was moving across the northeastern Caribbean Sea, away from the Leeward Islands, heading towards Hispaniola.

The Miami-based National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said that while the storm had been downgraded from a hurricane on Monday night, it could still affect several countries including St Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat, Antigua and Barbuda and Haiti.

A tropical storm watch has gone into effect for those countries as well as Guadeloupe, Marie Galante, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Desirade, Les Saintes, Viques and Culebra.

The centre of Tropical Storm Emily was located near latitude 115.5 north, longitude 64.0 west and is moving towards the west near 16 miles per hour.

The NHC has warned that Haiti could be affected by the storm by today and that Emily is expected to produce total rain accumulations of two to four inches in the Northern Windward and Leeward islands.

It further warned countries, including the Dominican Republic and Haiti, to be on guard for isolated rain showers amounting to 10 inches.
