Title up for grabs after washout

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC):

Heavy rains ruled out play yesterday for the third successive day in the fourth round of the WICB Regional Under-19 Championship, leaving teams with all to play for in the final round starting tomorrow.

Yet again, not a ball was bowled at any of the venues as water-logged outfields, resulting from overnight and early morning rain, ensured that players were restricted to the pavilions.

Contests at Bourda between Guyana and Windward Islands, and at the Demerara Cricket Club between Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados, were called off before the scheduled start.

At Everest, umpires stretched the game between leaders Jamaica and Leeward Islands beyond lunch with inspections at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., before finally abandoning play at 12:45 p.m.

Each team received three points from the rain-ravaged round, leaving Jamaica on 31 points, Trinidad and Tobago second on 27.3 points and Barbados third on 23.3 points.

All three teams are still in with a chance of taking the three-day crown but Jamaica will fancy their chances as they take on the fifth-place Windward Islands who are yet to win a game.

Trinidad face bottom-of-the-table side Leeward Islands at Bourda while the Barbadians clash with fourth-place Guyana at Everest.
