Knightsman day at the track

Camile Buchanan, chief executive officer of Caymanas Track Limited (CTL), has hailed the sponsorship of Knightsman Limited for the Independence Day Turn-Up race meet to be held at Caymanas Park tomorrow.

The press launch took place on the front lawn of Caymanas Park recently.

In addition to the race day, Knightsman are also part of the promotion and security services for the Misty Blue concert featuring the international renowned recording artiste, Dorothy Moore, on the infield at Caymanas Park on Sunday, August 7, starting at 7 p.m.

The Misty Blue concert will also feature One Third, Karen Smith, Nutty Kutchie, Ernest Wilson and Tahj.

Speaking at the launch, Buchanan noted that the milestone sponsorship from Knightsman has come at the time of Jamaica's 49th anniversary as an independent nation.

"We were very pleased when Knightsman accepted our invitation to partner with us on this iconic weekend," she said.

"Not only will the fans be treated to a feast of very competitive races, but they will also have a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Fans as well as CTL staff are invited to retro-dress in the '60s fashion show for a chance to win $50,000," she said.

There will also be the Independence Tun-Up, an after-race festival show featuring many-time festival winners Eric 'Cherry O Baby' Donaldson, Roy Rayon and, of course, Tinga Stewart, who performed at the launch.

"Ladies and gentleman, it is a rare when you are able to profitably combine pleasure and business. Knightsman has found this rare combination and we at CTL are very grateful for their decision to join forces with us to put on this show.

"We are even more pleased that they have committed to sponsor the activities for the next five years ... ," said Buchanan.

She was quick to add that nearly all the races on the card will be sponsored by Knightsman, including the $438,000 Knightsman Limited Independence Day Trophy over 1600 metres (claiming $180,000), as well as a three-legged gimmick race.

Also speaking were Anton Young, CEO of Knightsman Limited, along with the company's facilities manager, Phillip Campbell.
