It takes special people to show unconditional love and care for animals, and Darcy and Jim Fangman from Missouri, United States, are very special. Repeat visitors to the island since 2003, they have opened up their hearts to Jamaica making contributions to several local organisations.

The Animal House, an animal shelter located in Ocho Rios, St Ann, is one that is close to their hearts. They are, themselves, owners of five dogs with three more to be shortly added to the family.

Over the years, the Fangmans have assisted with accessing various types of medicine for the animal shelter and, for the second consecutive year, they outbid everyone on eBay in the charity's online auction for a special dinner sponsored by Couples Tower Isle and prepared by the resort chain's executive chef, Stefan Spath. The Fangmans also made the winning bid for a three-night stay at Couples Tower Isle (all proceeds are in aid of The Animal House).

Fabulous evening

On Thursday, July 21, as the sun kissed the Caribbean Sea in its descent, the Fangmans and a small group of their specially invited guests from Couples Tower Isle gathered on the lawns of Spath's home.

The cocktails and hors d'oeuvres were delicious, the company divine, and Spath's mastery was on full display.

With bellies full and palates satisfied, Darcy took the time to thank her guests and the brilliant chef.

"It's absolutely brilliant, and we are glad we could turn it into such a wonderful evening," she said, adding that Maureen Sherivan, who runs the animal shelter, "is a special lady with a heart of gold".

The night ended with guests sipping from glasses of Las Moras chardonnay and Chianti Classico Italian red, while Jim showed his musical side on the violin.
