Veteran roots singer Little Roy's latest album, Battle For Seattle, is a tribute to rock band Nirvana, leaders of the grunge movement that erupted in the United States during the early 1990s.

Battle For Seattle is scheduled to be released September 5 by Ark Recordings, which is owned by Russell Warby, who was Nirvana's first agent. Charles Peterson, who designed the jacket for Nirvana's Bleach album, designed Battle For Seattle's cover.

Lithium, Come As You Are, Heart-Shaped Box and About A Girl are some of the songs on the 10-track set. Wailers guitarist, Junior Marvin and Mafia of production team Mafia and Fluxy, worked on the album which was recorded in London.

Sliver, the first release from the album, was released recently.

Led by the troubled singer/songwriter Kurt Cobain, Nirvana were one of the most influential bands of the 1990s. Cobain's angst-driven songs inspired a musical movement out of Seattle known as grunge.

Platinum-selling bands Soundgarden and Pearl Jam also emerged from that scene. Cobain committed suicide in 1994 at the age of 27.

Little Roy has been recording and producing songs since the 1960s. His best-known songs are Tribal War and Prophecy which were made popular by George Nooks and Freddie McGregor, respectively.
