Fats Domino has always been a larger than life figure. Fans have loved his burly frame and distinctive voice for over 50 years.

Among those die-hard fans is singer Baron 'Breezy' McKenley who has done several tribute songs to the singer/pianist who made his name during the late 1950s when rock and roll was taking over the United States.

McKenley's latest project is a gospel album done to the music of some of Domino's biggest hits including Blueberry Hill, Josephine and I'm Ready.

Gospel Rendition of Fats Domino is the title of the set which was recently released locally and in the Caribbean.

"I never get tired of doing Fats Domino songs but I tried to do something different this time," McKenley, a devout Christian, told The Gleaner. "I'm pleased with the response I've got so far."

McKenley said he first heard Domino's songs 30 years ago while living in England. In 1991, he paid homage to his musical idol by releasing Tribute To Fats Domino, an album of covers.

The 50-year-old McKenley has made a name recording a clutch of tribute songs to other celebrities including talk-show host Oprah Winfrey and heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis.

He is scheduled to start promotion for Gospel Rendition of Fats Domino this month with dates in Bermuda.
