Walsh for T20 match at UWI

Former West Indies captain Courtney Walsh is set to lead a strong Cuddyz XI against the UWI Mona Principal's XI captained by Professor Gordon Shirley in a Twenty20 encounter on Saturday at the UWI Mona Bowl.

The 'Triple P' sports day is part of wider alumni activities which will see UWI graduates (Pelicans) taking part in various sporting disciplines.

The cricket match, which is set to bowl off at midday, is expected to feature players such as West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels and broadcaster Simon Crosskill, turning out for the Cuddyz XI. Professor Gordon Shirley will have in his ranks West Indies wicketkeeper Chadwick Walton, who also represented the Combined Colleges and Campus team in the WICB regional four-day tournament.

Other members of the UWI administrative staff, well-known Jamaican personalities and celebrities, as well as alumni and present students are expected to turn out for the match.

Organiser of the sports day, Nyron Morris, says the day's events form part of the week of activities, dubbed 'Through the Decades Alumni Reunion 2011'. The events are scheduled to take place from today until Sunday and are part of a wider celebration of the 63rd anniversary of the University of the West Indies.

"Sport has always been a driving force at the UWI and we could not bring graduates together and not have sporting activities. We will be playing cricket, basketball, football and volleyball to mark the occasion," said Morris.

The teams for the events will feature pre-2000 graduates going up against graduates post-2000.
