GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC):

A Trans Guyana Airways Britten Norman Islander skid off the runway at Port Kaituma Airport while attempting to land during rainy weather on Saturday.

The Guyana Stabroek News reported that several passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated at hospital.

The paper said the aircraft circled several times before making the landing attempt at the airport in the country's interior.

Damaged

The main landing gear of the aircraft was damaged during the landing and it ended up slipping off the runway and crashing into a fence, the report said.

This is the second incident in which a plane has crashed in Guyana in less than a month.

On July 30, a Caribbean Airlines Boeing 737 overshot the runway at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport and broke in two. Several passengers were injured in that incident.
