The Bob Marley Foundation recently launched its annual back-to-school programme which assists financially challenged parents of students attending primary and secondary schools.

Jacqueline Lynch-Stewart, general manager of the Marley Foundation, said a committee is currently assessing the requests made by parents who are mainly from inner-city communities in Kingston.

She said financial assistance is given for tuition, or to purchase books and uniforms. Once a decision is made on which students will benefit from the programme, Lynch-Stewart said the appropriate schools or companies are contacted by the foundation and the necessary funds disbursed.

"What I can say is that it gets harder for parents each year, so we find it necessary to help in any way we can," she said.

Lynch-Stewart said the Marley Foundation has contributed $3,949,947 to date to 22 students through its back-to-school programme. It also assists two basic schools in Trench Town.
