Chantel Davis makes number three
- Third Miss Jamaica World finalist chosen
The Spartan Health Club Wellness and Recreational Centre came alive on Saturday night when the Miss Jamaica World Talent fast-track competition was staged.
Though the rain threatened, it didn't dampen the spirits of those in attendance, as many family members, well-wishers and pageant fanatics came out to witness who would cop the title of Miss Jamaica World Talent winner and an automatic placement among the 10 finalists on coronation night.
After a wonderful and entertaining display of talent, Chantel Davis, Miss Neutrogena, came out on top.
Rene Harris, Miss Tru-Juice, was second and Chavoy Gordon, Miss Appleton Jamaica, was third.
The evening started minutes after 8 p.m. when emcees Denise Hunt and Adrian Atkinson invited the ladies onstage in fashions by Xing Designs.
Shortly after, there was a number of giveaways followed by a performance by Hezron. All 20 girls were again invited back to the stage to parade in swimsuits by The Mushroom. It was now time for one of the headline acts to take to the stage.
Songstress Alaine Laughton ventured on to the stage in a figure-hugging black mini to cheers by members of the audience. She thrilled and entertained as she shared hit after hit with the audience which was hanging on to her every note, You Are Me drawing the best response.
Enthusiastic patron
Alaine then invited an enthusiastic male patron onstage and serenaded him with her hit song, No Ordinary Love.
Alaine's performance preceded the way for the talent contest featuring eight finalists. The talent showcase started off with Gordon who recited a dramatic poem entitled Who Am I. Gabrielle Blackwood was up next but her performance experienced some technical difficulties as the projector to show her opening video malfunctioned. She proceeded nonetheless with her ballet piece. The violinist Paula-Kay Beswick was up next. She started her performance introducing herself in sign language and then went straight into her violin rendition of Bob Marley's Jammin. Harris did a dance medley that went over well with the patrons.
Danielle Crosskill showcased her multitasking abilities as she did an art piece while reciting a poem. It was entitled My Jamaica. The audience waited with interest as she recited the poem while she finger painted her interpretation of Jamaica. Kayla Mendes, Miss Osmosis, did a very powerful dance piece that was dedicated to cancer patients and cancer survivors. As she floated across the stage, dressed in lilac, she had the audience totally immersed in her fluid movements. It was a great dance piece with a positive message.
Lisa Williams, Miss Dunns Electrical, provided the most humour for the night. Her singing and acting piece was entitled Woman Unleashed and speaks of a battered woman who finally got her revenge on her abuser through death. Dressed in a fuschia gown, Williams entertained the audience from start to finish.
Chantel Davis brought the Middle East to the stage as she performed a captivating belly dance that thrilled the audience. She was dressed in a blue revealing number, she designed to reflect the culture of the dance piece.
