The new school year has already started at the tertiary level and Attica on Taylor Hall, the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, is already making preparations for their charity party, Genesis.

Entertainment chairperson for Attica, Rohan 'Post' Stephenson, has high expectations of the event. "Genesis party is the first event for the year, hence the name, and it will give the fresh people a new experience," he said.

Genesis is dubbed The Garden of Temptation and Stephenson says that he and his team are going all out to bring the concept of the Garden of Eden to life. "We are working with the theme and, as such, the venue will have palm trees and be fully decorated to look and feel like a garden. The ladies are encouraged to dress like Eve in the garden, because on that night all women will be referred to as Eves," he said.

Even the drinks will reflect the theme. "We are going to have drinks aligned to the concept, such as Jungle Fever, Tropical Punch and Tropical Fantasy. All these drinks will come with a different colour and taste to add a sense of variety," he said. Stephenson says that the party will also carry a mixed liquor special for all Adams and Eves; plus, there is an entry-fee deal.

Eves are free all night

"All Eves are free all night, but Adams will pay $300 if they bring an Eve. However, if they come to Genesis alone they will have to pay $350," he explained. Stephenson also says that there will be a Detox room where persons can unwind.

Music will be played by Code Red, Outlaws, Jimmy Cue of News Talk 93 FM and DJ Granty. According to the promoter, the selections will be hardcore. "It's all about vibe. Attica's events always have hype energy and a dat wi a try maintain - hardcore selections keeping the patrons moving," he said.

Although Genesis is a fun event, it's a prime contributor to Attica's charity programme. "Attica is responsible for the Nell's Learning Center in Tavern and, as university students, our job is to give back to communities so that others can have access to education as well. So this is just one way in which we contribute," he said.

Genesis is slated for Saturday, September 10, at Taylor Hall's multipurpose room.
