THE EDITOR, Sir:

The world watched in anticipation to see Jamaica's Usain Bolt unfurl his long frame to challenge himself to yet another record. Arenas around the world have literally banked on his presence to draw the crowds, and he hasn't disappointed - until now. But, has he really?

Since the rules have changed, we have seen the dismissal of top athletes from line-ups, much to the disappointment of not only the athletes, but the coaches, managers, crowds and even entire countries.

Bolt's dismissal, while regrettable, is timely. He has such a reputable status in the international arena that he is able to command the attention of those who matter most: the IAAF. This does not necessarily mean that it will result in a change of policy, but it has caused them to reconsider. And that in itself is a good thing.

Disenchanted peoples everywhere, take heart, one man CAN change the world.
