St Catherine win low-scoring clash

NATIONAL PLAYERS André Russell and Bevon Brown each bagged four wickets as St Catherine Cricket Club scored a 12-run win over St Elizabeth, in the low-scoring feature match of the Jamaica Cricket Association Limited-Overs Championship, at Chedwin Park, St Catherine.

Batting first, St Catherine were skittled out for 88 in 37.2 overs, with Orain Williams top-scoring with 19. Alton Beckford, 4-24, led the bowling for St Elizabeth, while Kenroy Williams supported well with 3-10.

Chasing a meagre target, St Elizabeth fared worse and were dismissed for 76 off 24.3 overs as Russell, 4-18 and Brown, 4-15, did major damage. Howard Powell led the scoring for St Elizabeth with 22.

In the day's other fixtures, five other teams registered wins and there was one no-result, between Hanover and Westmoreland at Elgin Town, due to rain.

Westmoreland, which won the toss, scored 106 off 31.4 overs. Nick Blackwood 31, and Derval Green 30, made most runs, while Jermaine Blackwood 4-27 and McKoy Ewan 2-5, were the top wicket-takers.

In reply, Hanover were 30-1 off six overs when the rains ended the contest. Rickel Walker,12, and Jermaine Blackwood, 10, got into double figures.

Good support

St Ann, Clarendon, Kingston, St Mary and Kensington were also winners.

Kensington scored the biggest win, walloping Boys' Town by 266 runs at Kensington.

Having been sent to bat, Kensington amassed 321 for six off the maximum 50 overs, with Brian Clarke smashing the season's first century, 106. Ryan Francis provided good support while scoring 54. Chavar Kennedy, who took 2-47, was Boys' Town's top bowler.

Francis returned to claim three for 22 and combined with Germaine Gordon, who took four wickets for seven runs, to dismiss Boys' Town for 55 off 18.8 overs.

St Ann, 193 off 36.2 overs, beat Trelawny, 175 off 38.1, by 19 runs at Noranda Bauxite. Hanchard Hamilton, 42 not out, and Xavier Marshall, 21, led St Ann's scoring, while Lorenzo Ingram took 4-34 and Kemar Allen 2-20.

Trelawny's batting was led by Oral Rankine, 41, and Ingram, 21. Andre Dwyer bagged 4-48 and Duran Whyte 2-16.

Clarendon beat G.C. Foster College by 7 wickets at G.C. Foster. G.C. Foster made 76 off 33.2 overs, as Krishmar Santokie took 4-13 and Errol Tomas 3-27.

Clarendon replied with 78-3 off 17.5 overs, with Omar Knight making 26 and Wayne Davis 22. Dwight Stewart took 2-25.

Kingston hammered Police by 138 runs at Elletson Road. Kingston, led by Simon Jackson, 89, and André Bryce, 48, scored 218 off 48.3 overs. Renford Boodie took 3-36 and Kemar Marshall 3-38.

Police were skittled out for 80 off 29 overs. Boris Hutchinson undermined the cops, taking six for 21, while Paul Harrison chipped in with two wickets for eight runs. Odane Hutchinson 28 and Kemar Marshall 27 virtually accounted for all the runs scored by Police.

St Mary beat the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) by 22 runs on the Duckworth/Lewis Method in their rain-affected encounter at Eden Gardens.

The JDF scored 172, with Akbar Moodie, 37, Jermaine Harrison, 33, and Joseph Palmer 30, leading their batting. Orane Farr, 4-25, and Teswayne Creary, 3-31, led St Mary's bowling.

St Mary were 131-5 off 32 overs when the rains came. Tackim Lowe, who scored an unbeaten 41 and Maurice Clarke, 30, led St Mary's batting. Sheldon Cotterell took 2-34.
