Cornwall bow in today

Following Saturday's auspicious start, which saw defending champions Rusea's High spanking Zone B counterparts Green Island High School 10-0 in their opening game, action will continue in the 2011 ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup this afternoon with a total of 14 games in five zones.

Among the teams who will be on show this afternoon are the competition's most successful team, 11-time champions Cornwall College, and former champions Munro College, Dinthill Technical and Frome Technical.On Saturday, Munro started their season with a 2-1 win against Balaclava while Dinthill had a 0-0 draw against Old Harbour.

Following the solid statements made by Rusea's against Green Island, and Garvey Maceo, who had a 9-0 trouncing of their Zone I counterparts Central High, it is expected that some of the other fancied teams will also be aiming to make profound statements today.

Tricky assignment

Cornwall, who recently defeated Munro to win the 2011 Jackson Shield, will face a tricky assignment, playing away to Spot Valley High, a school which denied them a place in the inter-zone round last year. However, with a wily tactician in new coach Hopeton Gilchrist, the downtown Montego Bay team should enter the game quite focused.

"Our plan is to take it one game at a time with our first target being the inter-zone round," said Gilchrist, who previously had good stints at Manning's and Munro. "We are expecting a good season, we had a good preparation and I believe the boys are ready."
