WESTERN BUREAU:

Cornwall College, the competitions most successful team, got off to a less than desirable start in the 2011-12 ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup, when they were forced to come from behind to snatch a 1-1 draw with Spot Valley High in the Zone A fixture at Spot Valley.

In a game in which both teams played below expectations, Spot Valley took a first-half 1-0 lead courtesy of a well-taken goal by Oshane Willocks. However, Cornwall College rallied to grab a share of the points via a late goal by Santino Grinnion.

"We were too tentative in the first half although we got and wasted a few chances," said Cornwall College's coach, Hopeton Gilchrist. "Thankfully, we settled down in the second half and played ourselves back into the game."

Fine start

In another game in Zone A, Williams Knibb got off to a fine start, clipping the much talked about Green Pond High School 1-0 in their game in Martha Brae. Hugh George Watson got the lone goal for the Cassman Williams-coached William Knibb.

In Zone F, Munro College rushed to the top of the standings with maximum six points, after their 5-0 win against Newell High.
