Singer Jah Cure has been dropped from the Best Reggae Act category for the October 5 MOBO Awards, to be held in Glasgow, Scotland.
A report in the Sun newspaper last week said organisers cited Jah Cure's eight-year prison sentence for rape as their reason for cutting him from their list of nominees.
Damian 'Junior Gong' Marley and Nas, Alborosie, Khago and Mavado are the nominees for Best Reggae Act. Jah Cure was in the initial batch of nominees which were announced August 31.
Jah Cure was given a 15-year sentence for illegal firearm possession, rape and robbery in 1999. He was released in July 2007.
While incarcerated, Jah Cure developed a cult following through songs like Longing For, Love You and True Reflections. One of his most recent hits is Unconditional Love.
The MOBOs (Music Of Black Origin) is the most recognised award show for black artistes in Britain. It was first staged in 1996.
