Political unity a must for national advancement
THE EDITOR, Sir;
When is it going to stop?
The leader of the Opposition has come up with JEEP. As expected, the Government is ripping JEEP apart. We all had a very good idea what the Government was going to say about JEEP. We also knew how the Opposition was going to react even before they did. The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the People's National Party (PNP) are very predictable.
It doesn't matter who the Opposition is, they oppose everything the Government says or does. It doesn't matter who the Government is, they oppose everything the Opposition says and does.
It's all about getting power. The JLP and PNP will do and say anything to win points, and most of what they say is nearly meaningless anyway. The amazing thing is that these people are all educated, and still they cannot agree on anything that will move the country forward.
Oppose, oppose, oppose!
The policy of the Opposition is that if it can, it will do whatever it takes to prevent the Government from having a successful term in office. My thinking is if the Government and the Opposition work together in the best interest of the nation, we will still have changes in which party forms the Government. It is almost guaranteed that we will want to see a change in government after about two terms.
So JLP and PNP, let's give it a try. Sit together and let's fix some of the problems we are facing, such as corruption, the economy, crime, schools/education, health, night noise, garrisons, manufacturing, agriculture, and greedy commercial banks.
I assure you, both the JLP and PNP will get the credit and we will show our appreciation by giving you turns at governing the country
In about 10 years, we would become a First-World nation and the rest of the world would learn from us. They will also treat us with dignity when we turn up at their airports and welcome us to their countries.
Unless we go the route recommended above, there will be little hope for this beautiful island and its people.
