Emmy style: Hits and misses
THERE ARE three things that are guaranteed in life - taxes, death and bad fashion at awards shows. Last Sunday's Emmy Awards was a prime example of bad fashion on parade.
It always amazes me that celebrities have all the world's best fashion resources at hand, yet they step on to the red carpet wearing some of the things they do.
But let's for a moment not blame the celebrities. Let's blame the designers for making them.
They know the whole world will be watching and asking one question: 'Who are you wearing?'
What do they hope? That hideous will be the new fall trend? That ugly will be all the rage for the upcoming season?
- Hits
But there are some women who really know their bodies and what looks good on them and kept to the trend of the popular colours for the night - red and black. Despite what some fashion critics (Kelly Osbourne) said about blending into the carpet, they really stood out.
Kate Winslet, I have never seen her look anything but fabulous on any red carpet and she rocked her Elle Saab gown.
Paula Abdul looked good and well put together for a change, X-Factor must be good for her. Evan Rachel Wood goes old Hollywood and was perfect in her Elle Saab black dress. The silhouette was flawless.
Kerry Washington really stood out in Zuhair Murad. The colour suited her (could have done without the see-through bottom) and I love the red lips. Lea Michele also worked a red Marchesa with a to-die-for plunge in the back. But my pick for best dressed has to be Colombian sexpot Sofia Vergara in a body-hugging Vera Wang.
- Misses
Heidi Klum and her husband Seal were major disappointments for me. Seal's open shirt said one thing - sloppy, and Heidi's dress by Project Runway's winner Christian Siriano made a waste of a great body.
Now, I have one question: Who allowed Gwyneth Paltrow out of the house in that midriff baring, see-through Emilio Pucci get-up? What was she not thinking? Did she suddenly get bored with looking fabulous on the red carpet?
Christina Hendricks had her accessories on show, giving her a permanent chin-rest all night. The silk-satin Johanna Johnson gown adorned with Swarovski stones and an up-to-there slit was nice, but who noticed? Didn't like the colour against her pale skin and I think she is too voluptuous and short for such a slit.
The top of Aubrey Plaza's Juan Carlos Obando gown was a cross between a bib and something that got caught in the shredder. The bottom fits nice though. And Katie Holmes was such a snoozefest, all I have to say is: nice colour.
