As expected, champions Rusea's High had their toughest game of the 2011 ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup yesterday afternoon, but in the end their quality came through.
Top striker Brian 'Rambo' Brown scored twice to give them a 2-0 over Frome Technical in their Zone B top-of-the-table clash at the Frome Sports Ground in Westmoreland.
With the win the Anthony 'Follies' Williams and Emerson 'Diggy' Henry-coached Rusea's have moved up to maximum 12 points from their four games while the prolific Brown, who won last season's golden boot, has increased his goalscoring tally to 10. Frome remain second in the group on nine points.
"It was a good game and we basically did what we had to do to win," said coach Williams. "We did not fully extend ourselves because we have another game on Monday so we basically needed to conserve some energy."
In Zone F, leaders St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) dropped their first point of the season when they played out a 1-1 draw against arch-rivals Munro College at Malvern. The point lifts STETHS to 16 while the goal tally now stands at 36 for and one against.
"We took the lead with 13 minutes to go but Munro drew level with a brilliant goal," said STETHS's coach Andrew Edwards. "It was our best performance but you know when STETHS and Munro meet it is all about pride and passion."
