JDF too strong for Kingston

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) yesterday moved one step closer to the quarter-finals of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Limited Overs Championship after recording a 59-run win over Kingston in their top-of-the-table Group C clash at Up Park Camp.

The army men, who are now on six points, the same as Kingston, improved their standing on the back of outstanding performances from spin bowlers Dennis Bulli and captain Damion Gray and batsmen Jermaine Edwards and Wayne Cuff.

Bulli claimed 2-16 and Gray 2-33 to restrict Kingston to 163 off 44.5 overs. This was in reply to the home team's 222 off 47 overs with Edwards getting 65 and Wayne Cuff 37.

Earlier, Andrew Richardson with 3-44, and spinner Frederick Hermitt with 3-45 led the way for Kingston, while Chadwick Walton, 34, and captain Simon Jackson, 32, made most runs in their reply. Brendan Nash made 13.

"It was a disciplined bowling and fielding performance from us today," said Gray.

"Bulli did particularly well as he came in at a pressure time and delivered, while it was good to see Edwards and Cuff getting among the runs," said Gray.

Jackson said his team will now have to turn their attention to their next match.

"We will just have to regroup and win our final game against St Thomas if we are to qualify," he said.

In another result from Group C, St Thomas got the better of Police by three wickets at Elleston Road, thanks to 78 from Marvin Darlington.

Elsewhere, St Ann, led by André Dwyer's 5-46 defeated Hanover by 78 runs at Elgin Town in Group A, while in Group B, G.C. Foster, on the back 50 from Zeniffe Fowler, defeated St Elizabeth 16 runs at G.C. Foster. St Catherine CC defeated St Catherine CA by 67 runs at Chedwin Park courtesy of 4-15 from Bevon Brown.

Group D's lone encounter saw Kingston and St Andrew, led by Lorenzo James' 155, getting the better of Boys' Town by 324 runs at Maxfield Park.
