Wolmer's, Charlie Smith in big clash

Charlie Smith and Wolmer's will meet in the feature game of the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel Manning Cup schoolboy football at Heroes Circle this afternoon.

The Group C showdown, which is slated to get underway at 3 p.m., will see leaders Charlie Smith, on 10 points, looking to extend their lead, while for Wolmer's, who are second on eight points, the aim will be to leapfrog their opponents.

"Playing at home we will be going all out for a win as we need to either keep up with or surpass Charlie Smith," said Wolmer's coach Ludlow Bernard.

"Like us, they are unbeaten in three games thus far and having coached a couple of their players at Harbour View, I have an idea what they are capable of.

"But having said that we plan to go at them," he added.

The Wolmerians, with two wins and two draws, will again look to national Under-17 representatives defender Kemo Wallace and forward Jason Wright to lead their charge.

They will also be hoping that goalkeeper and captain Amal Knight will continue to prove his worth, as well as forward Chris Campbell.

Inspiration

Charlie Smith, in the meantime, who are coached by Jerome Waite, will seek inspiration from Arnett Gardens' National Premier League player, midfielder Javoni Simms, forwards Michelos Martin and Omar Price, and central defender Cishunl Harris.

Charlie Smith have so far secured three wins and a draw.

" Everybody is looking forward to it as it should be a very interesting battle between two title hopefuls," said Charlie Smith's assistant coach, Carol Butler.

"It's just a matter of us going there and showing the same application we have shown since the start of the season and if we do that I am expecting a positive result," he declared.

In the group's other matches fourth-place Dunoon, on four points, will host third-place Ascot, who too have eight points, while Haile Selassie, on two points, will entertain pointless Vauxhall.

Over in Group A, leaders Calabar will seek to extend their lead when they host struggling Greater Portmore, Holy Trinity will play away to Mona, while second-place Excelsior will travel to St Catherine.

Group E, in the meanwhile, will see leaders St George's hosting Innswood, Spanish Town welcoming Tarrant and Meadowbrook playing away to Edith Dalton James.
