Roadwork pays off for I-Cient-Cy Mau
Singer I-Cient-Cy Mau says performing in Canada recently showed that going on the road is still a viable way for reggae artistes to reach out to fans and sell CDs.
The roots performer and his six-piece Mau Mau Warriors band performed on the Rasta, Caribbean and Muskoka festivals in Ontario in August. They also appeared on the popular CityTV magazine programme.
I-Cient-Cy Mau said the shows introduced his colleagues and their music to a new audience.
"It's definitely a whole new market for us. We can only try an' make more contacts there and build on it," he told The Gleaner.
I-Cient-Cy Mau and the Warriors used the opportunity to shop their When Words Come To Life album. The 11-track set was released in 2010 and also featured veteran bass player Chris Meredith and drummer Wilburn 'Squiddly' Cole.
Born Desmond Williams, I-Cient-Cy Mau was formerly known as Junior Ranking, half of the Finnigan and Junior Ranking act which recorded four albums and the hit song, Youthman Prophecy.
