Creary hopes goal moves him up pecking order

New Harbour View recruit Lennox "Calico" Creary says he would love to cement a regular spot in the team and hopes that his assurance goal against Reno - in their 2-0 National Premier League victory on Sunday - will be able to help him realise this dream.

The medium-built former Arnett Gardens and Meadhaven United midfielder, who was making his seasonal debut, came on as a late second half substitute at harbour View Mini Stadium and made an immediate impact, when he netted in the 88th minute to help Harbour View secure their first win of the campaign.

The Stars of the East, who lost their opening home game at home to Humble Lion and played to a 2-2 away draw in their second encounter against newcomers Highgate United, had earlier taken the lead in the 10th minute through midfielder John-Ross Edwards.

Making the squad

"It feels great to know that on my seasonal debut I was able to get a goal, which pretty much wrapped up the match for us," said 23-year-old Creary, whose slick passing and quick movements were evident the moment he entered the game.

"I was not named in the squad for the first two games of the season, but after not picking up a win the coach decided to make some changes and thankfully I was in the squad this week.

"I then told myself that given the opportunity I would try to make the best of it and so said, so done," he added.

Creary, who left Arnett during last season's January transfer window, scored a goal that was somewhat similar to that of Edwards.

Picking up a ball in the middle of the park, he played a one-two pass with fellow midfielder Joel Edwards that opened up Reno's defence and provided him with a shot from about the edge of the area, which was blocked by the otherwise outstanding Ron Daley in goal for Reno.

Good composure

But follow-up, Creary found the ball at his feet and with Daley on the ground, he showed good composure to round the keeper and tuck his shot into the net.

Edwards' goal, in the meantime, also came from a rebound, as lurking inside the area, he was the first to react to a diving save from Daley, which was brought about from a low cross on the right side.

"It was a disappointing display from us tonight," said Reno coach Michael 'Jim Dandy' Graham.

"Those two goals could have been prevented if our defenders were more alert and it is something we will have to work on for the next game," he declared.

It was Reno's second consecutive loss, after going down 1-0 to Waterhouse at home two weeks ago. They had defeated Boys' Town in their opening fixture on match day one.

They are now seventh in the 12-team point standings with three points, while Harbour View are fifth with four points.

Waterhouse with a maximum nine points lead the league, while Tivoli and Portmore United, seven each, round off the top three.
