Profile of the next leader - Should the next prime minister be under age 50?
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I do not subscribe to the prevailing talk that we need young persons to lead our country. We need much more than that - or another Bruce Golding. As far as I am concerned, having a new young leader - just for having a young leader's sake - is akin to pouring new wine in a dirty bottle.
The gangs of old fogies we now have in Gordon House have contaminated our present crop of young leaders. These young leaders, like the others in Gordon House, all have good intentions to change the status quo, but very soon after they get in, they drink from the trough of Government. As I see it, Chris-topher Tufton and Andrew Holness, among other young hopefuls, have morphed into the old mould of politics. Now, they, too, are too happy with the status quo and will not change.
What we need first and foremost is leaders who will put the country above all else. We need leader(s) with integrity, ones who will command the respect of others. We need a leader who will inspire the people, one who will be a manager.
We need a leader who will chart a new course and has a plan and vision for the country. We need a leader who will be truthful.
We need a leader who will set goals and demand accountability from his ministers and others.
So far, for better and mostly worse, we will be stuck with the same cast and the same show unless there is a revolution, or some one in the JLPNP gang has a road-to-Damascus awakening.
