With $6 million to stage Montego Bay's premier family event, the Busta Nyammins and Jammins Food Festival on Heroes Day, plans are afoot to ensure that the 11th staging at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Centre offers a complete package.

During the press conference for the event at Sunset Beach Resort and Spa, chairman for the St James 4-H Advisory Council, Bryan Miller, explained that several efforts had been made to ensure that patrons are able to enjoy both a culinary, cultural, and entertain-ment experience.

"This year, there will be a farmers' market at the venue, chain-saw competition, canine show, and a strong-man competition. All this is in addition to the activities that we normally have at Nyammins and Jammins," Miller outlined.

No fee increase

He added further that despite the rising costs for organising the event, the planning committee had taken the decision not to increase the fees for patrons.

"It is still $700 for adults and $300 for children, and that has been there for the past two years because we want persons to be able to come out with their family, experience great food and entertainment without it bursting their budget," he said. "So save the October 17 date and come out for Nyammins and Jammins."

Miller said the festival is still open to sponsors who would like to get on-board. In addition, the concessionaire stalls will cost the same as they did last year, and applications close on October 1.

The Busta Nyammins and Jammins 2011 Festival endorses the 'Eat Jam-aican' campaign by the Ministry of Agriculture, and will seek to promote the concept with food items that will be available for consumption.

Busta 4-H Nyammins and Jammins Food Festival is one of the main annual fund-raising events for the Jamaica 4-H Movement. The monies generated from the venture have been used to construct a home economics centre in Montego Bay where subsidised training is provided. St James 4-H Achievement Day is also funded by the festival and students receive scholarships and bursaries through proceeds from the event.
