In November 2009, the Norman Manley Law School (NMLS) class of 1989 celebrated its 20th anniversary by establishing a scholarship to be awarded to a second-year law student.

Reflecting on the challenges faced by current students, they realised that they could best assist them by funding a scholarship valued at $100,000.

The scholarship is awarded in the memory of the late Nicole Alicia Lambert, attorney-at-law. Lambert died in 2010 after more than a decade-long battle with cancer. She was a hard-working member of the class and was well respected, not only by her peers, but also by the many other persons who interacted with her both within and outside of the legal profession.

The class established a list of criteria to be met by the awardee. They included maintaining a B average, displaying good leadership qualities, integrity, and must be involved in the activities of the law school and the wider community. The recipient will also be required to prove need.

On Thursday, September 8, members of class of 1989 handed over the scholarship cheque to NMLS principal Professor Stephen Vasciannie. The awardee was chosen by the scholarships and bursaries committee of the law school in conjunction with members of the class of 1989.
