MANILA (AP):

The Philippines has deported 67 Chinese allegedly involved with an international syndicate that engaged in Internet and credit-card fraud.

Immigration investigation chief Arvin Santos said in a statement yesterday that the suspects are accused of luring customers from China and Taiwan into buying goods and services online, but diverting the money.

He said the 67 were arrested last week at houses in two Manila suburbs. They were flown to Beijing on Friday and won't be allowed to re-enter the Philippines.

Police said China had requested that the suspects be investigated.

It was not clear if those arrested were part of a group of 300 Taiwanese and 500 Chinese arrested last week at 166 locations across Asia for alleged involvement in scams.
