'Our first year was a resounding success' - St Catherine FA, LIME happy with first season of three-year partnership

According to major players LIME and the parish's governing body for the sport, the first season of the LIME St Catherine Football Association league was a resounding success, as the competitions were religiously followed by enthusiastic fans and the brand of football displayed was of the highest quality.

LIME's head of marketing, Stephen Price, touted last season as a success and anticipates the same for this campaign.

"Our first year of involvement with St Catherine football was resoundingly successful and this football programme has transformed into a robust community-enrichment and development programme, one that we are proud to continue to support," Price declared.

The highlight of the season was the progression of two players - Neco Brett and Kemar Beckford - to the national Under-20 team.

The various stakeholders in the league yesterday gathered at Cuddy'z to celebrate the success of last season and launch the much-anticipated 2011/12 campaign, which will kick off today with two games.

Along with Brett and Beckford, Cordel Benbow and Olanzo Brown were also highlighted as shining stars of last season.

The St Catherine Under-13 team was also recognised, as they crowned themselves national champions.

New logos, more teams

The entire St Catherine Football Association season, which has been sponsored by LIME over three years to the tune of $15 million, comprises three major competitions - Major League, Division One and Happy Sutherland Knockout. All will now have new logos, while the Division One will feature 10 teams, up from nine.

The Division One competition will kick off the season, with newly promoted Watson Grove - winners of the Portmore League - tackling Central League winners Old Harbour Bay, at 2 p.m. today at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.

The other teams competing for the Division One title are Cumberland, Albion United, Treadways, Waterford, Upfront United, Flamingo, Travellers and Benbow United - winners of the North League.

The Major League will get on the way at the same venue at 4 p.m., when Spanish Town Police engage knockout and Division One winners, Fraziers Whip.

The other Major League teams are Black Lion, Portsmouth, Christian Pen, Tru-Juice, Wanderers, McCook's Pen, Rodwood, Dunbeholden and D.B. Basovak.

The Knockout competition, which will consist of 31 teams from Divison One, Division Two, Major League, Super League and the parish's sole Premier League club, Portmore United, will get on the way on November 3rd.

"We will again partner with our sponsors LIME to offer the fans an improved season," president of the St Catherine FA, Peter Reid, stated.

"On the association's part, we intend to offer season tickets for semi-finals and finals that are played in the Oval, along with gate prizes at the Oval," he added.
