Some 250 senior citizens of Mandeville, led by the bishop of Jamaica and Mrs Reid, Custos Gilbert Allen and wife Georgia, recently expressed appreciation to Dorothy Peart in recognition of 25 years unbroken service as secretary of the Manchester Golden Age Development Company.

Hosted at the Golf View Hotel on Mrs Peart's recent birthday, the function focused on volunteerism as Mrs Peart, widow of the late Jamaican high commissioner to London, Ernest Peart, has been the epitome of volunteerism in the parish. In the citation to her, Mrs Peart was described "a treasure of exceptional class."

Hailed as a matriarch of the senior citizens' movement in Manchester, Mrs Peart has served the Jamaica government pensioners, Jamaica Legion/Curphey Home and Andrew's United Church.

The afternoon's function was held in the beautiful ambience of the Golf View Hotel. Corporate sponsors supported the event, including Singer Jamaica Limited that donated $55,000 reclining chair.

Mrs Peart is mother of the Michael and Dean Peart, members of parliament, and Christine Steele, formerly of Air Jamaica.
