PM Spencer wants digital society

Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer says his administration is seeking to position Antigua and Barbuda as the regional leader in building an electronically wired society.
Addressing the launch of the seventh ICT FEST 2011 here on Tuesday night, Spencer said that his administration was committed to building a digitally competitive society.
"Today, the government of Antigua and Barbuda is continuing to deliver on its promise of building an intelligent nation. Today, Antigua and Barbuda sends another clear signal that we are indeed building an information-enabled, globally connected knowledge-based society."

He told the brief launching ceremony that the convergence and integration of communication networks and services and the growth of the Internet mobile applications and electronic commerce have resulted in the development of a master plan for the transformation of Antigua and Barbuda to a digitally driven and digitally competitive society.
"My government's ICT (Information Communi-cation and Technology) policy has been carefully designed to upgrade the intellectual capital of the nation and building a pluralistic society, one in which all citizens and residents have access to information and knowledge."
He said that Antigua and Barbuda must continue to develop as a knowledge-based society where access to knowledge represents an important national value.
