Summerbell machine will be 'flying like a bullet' - Gore

He and his Mitsubishi Evolution 8 lost the battle on track at the last race meet. David Summerbell licked his wounds and then went shopping. Now he has found a secret weapon which he promises to unleash at the Heroes' Day race meet, hoping it will contain Doug Gore and his Audi TT.

"It does not matter how I do it, but my goal for this meet is to take back the track record and dominate the Thundersport II and Modified Production 4 Classes," said Summerbell, who is trailing Kyle Gregg by 26 points in the race for Jamaica's champion circuit racing driver.

The St Andrew-based businessman brought in some effective car parts out of Chicago on Thursday night to boost his engine for the return clash with Gore and company.

But like a strategic football coach spying on his opponents, Gore has done some investigations and found out that Summerbell has installed a sequential gearbox.

"This means it (Summerbell's Mitsubishi Evolution) no longer uses clutch, everything is automatic. This is not cheap. The last time I checked around it cost about US$40,000. I am 100 per cent sure that his car is now faster and will be flying like a bullet," commented Gore.

Despite the changes to Summer-bell's car, Gore is not backing down and has described the upcoming showdown as "rivalry at the highest level at Dover".

"We will see how it goes," were Gore's last words.

While qualifying begins tomorrow, the race meet will officially get under way at 9 a.m.

Hilary Jardine, president of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club, anticipates another record-breaking crowd attendance.

The feature race will be the Alfred Chen Memorial Thundersport Race, which will be contested over 12 laps.

This race is a tribute to Dover's founder Alfred Chen, who perished in a helicopter crash more than 10 years ago.

There will be 15 races on the weekend, three of which will be confined to motorcyclists. The main competitor for the motorcycle crown are defending champion Stefan Chin, the current lap record holder. Chin is expected to be strongly challenged by Adrian Blake.
