Hot Flames to battle Warriors tomorrow

WESTERN BUREAU:Lucea Flames will be aiming to make it three wins from three starts in the 2011-12 Western Basketball Association (WBA) Division One league tomorrow afternoon when they play host to Montego Bay Boys' Club Warriors on their home court at Watson Taylor Park in Lucea, starting at 4 p.m.
Flames, who started the season with a bang, spanking Spartan 45-27 in their Hanover derby, were again in prime form last weekend, scoring an easy 56-44 win over Granville Wolfpack.
"We played with a lot of maturity and it paid off for us," said Sheldon Pearson, coach of the Knights. "I have a lot of confidence in this team and I expect them to go far."
Prior to tomorrow's game in Lucea, the Montego Bay Cricket Club Courts will feature a double-header this afternoon. In the curtain-raiser, Wolfpack and Spartans, who are both coming off back-to-back defeats, will meet at 4 p.m., while in the 6 p.m. feature game, MoBay Lions will take on the might of Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights.
In addition to Flames, the enterprising MoBay Lions and Knights also registered good wins in last weekend's game. Lions clipped Warriors 51-50 in a breathtaking showdown, while Knights easily brushed aside the challenge of Spartans 64-43.
In their win against Wolfpack, the silky-smooth Flames won the first quarter 12-11, the second 18-6 and then after losing the third 14-10, rebounded solidly to seal victory with a 16-13 four-quarter effort.
Craig Dorman, with a game-high 19 points, and Alrick Haughton with 10 were the outstanding performers for Flames, while André Uter and Davian Thelwell, with 14 and 13 points, respectively, saved face for Wolfpack.

In their game against Spartans, the youthful but extremely talented Knights showed that their first-round 73-65 win against Wolfpack was no fluke as they won the first three quarters by 12-7, 20-13 and 19-8 margins before surrendering the final quarter 15-13 with victory in sight.
Jamoi Richards and Lamar Mitchell, with 21 and 14 points, respectively, led the way for the Knights, while Garfield Johnson and Goshen Hylton, who scored 14 and eight points, respectively, tried hard in Spartans' failed effort.
In the last of the weekend games, Lions had to fight tooth and nail to get their one-point win against Warriors. They won the first quarter 17-10, lost the second 16-12, drew the third 13-13, and lost the final 11-9.
Lions' win revolved around Lloyd Dixon, who got 15 points, and Garfield Brown, who got 12. Sheldon Lyle, with 15 points, and Riglin Brown, with eight, were on target for the Warriors.
