In celebrating its 25th anniversary of operations in Jamaica, the American Chamber of Commerce of Jamaica (AmCham) hosted its second business and civic leaders grand gala awards ceremony at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel on Monday, September 26. Lady Hall, wife of former Governor General Sir Kenneth Hall, headed the panel of judges that scrutinised the nominees from various categories.

Diana Stewart, president of AmCham, and Becky Stockhausen, its executive director, reported on the many successful events and initiatives undertaken by the chamber and highlighted the major contribution they continue to make, while noting that it would not have been attained without the hard work done by the events and communications committee, headed by Michelle Wilson-Reynolds.

It was a memorable and inspiring night that saw 10 awards being made to the following:

The 21-year-old Wolmer's Dance Troupe for arts and culture (school or community based organisation).

The Dr Olive Lewin-founded Jamaica Folk Singers for arts and culture.

Dr L'Antoinette Stines, also for arts and culture (individual), an artistic director, choreographer, actor, teacher and author.

The St Patrick's Foundation, for arts and culture (a charitable organisation), dedicated to human and community development.

The Jamaica National Foundation (for corporate organisation) formed to manage and execute its company's philanthropic efforts.

Dr Henley Morgan received the individual award for relocating his consultancy and water tank manufacturing business to Trench Town.

The Capital and Credit Financial Group, (small company), a successful home-grown, respected and profitable financial company.

Digicel Jamaica Foundation received the award for corporate and social responsibility (large company), established to help people and communities build sustainable and meaningful programmes.

Dr Olive Lewin received the lifetime achievement award for 45 years of service dedicated to nurturing and preserving Jamaican folk music and heritage.

Honourable Maurice Facey also received a lifetime achievement award for civic leadership over 60 years to realise his vision across corporate and social sectors.
