Ellis surprise hero for Boys' Town

Defender Wayne Ellis was Boys' Town's unlikely hero, after scoring the decisive goal in his team's 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Water-house in their National Premier League fifth round encounter yesterday at the Drewsland Stadium.

Boys' Town's other goalscorer was captain Michael Campbell, who found the net in first-half stoppage time to cancel out Water-house's captain Vincent Earl's 12th minute opener. Defender Ellis netted his first goal in two seasons in the 63rd minute to give his team all three points and knock Waterhouse off their perch at the top of the 12-team table.

Waterhouse fell to fourth with ten points, while Boys' Town (seven) continue their upward move, as they climb to eight. Defending champion Tivoli Gardens have assumed the lead by way of goal difference, as they moved to 11 points, the same as Portmore United following a 1-0 victory over Harbour View courtesy of a Mitchily Waul strike.

Wright sent off field

Boys' Town finished the game with 10 players, as Carlos Wright was ejected three minutes into second-half stoppage time, after committing his second bookable offence.

The Andrew Price-coached Boys' Town team got off to a rugged start and Earl's goal appeared to have rattled them even more, as things reached boiling point in the 15th minute when Oneil 'Bigga' Thompson and Kearn Binns, who are teammates, got into a skirmish and had to be separated.

"It was all about two players not being on the same accord and they had a misunderstanding," Price sought to explain. "We went inside at the half we thrashed it out ... . They came out and both gentlemen finished the game well," he added.

Boys' Town's captain, Campbell, provided the inspiration his team needed as he rescued a disastrous first half with a goal just before the interval.

The Red Brigade emerged a unified force for the second half and took the fight to Waterhouse, as they were first to every 50/50 ball. They were rewarded for their industry in the 63rd minute when Ellis was left unmarked on the back post to sidefoot home a Renae Lloyd delivered free kick.

Watherhouse got a glorious opportunity to pull level in the 84th minute when substitute Kemal Malcolm was played through on goal after a fast break by his team, but with Boys' Town's custodian Kirk Porter at his mercy he sent his effort into orbit.

Malcolm's glaring miss and his team's lacklustre second-half showing left Waterhouse's coach Donavan Duckie ruing the absence of influential player Jermaine 'Tuffy' Anderson, who was missing due to an accumulation of cards.

"This is why we have depth in the squad and if we can't play without Anderson then we are going to be in problems," Duckie declared. "I thought we deserved to lose the game, as we did everything to lose the game today," he added.
