JEDANI
It is rare that you find someone as passionate about music as Jedani. It was exhilarating to watch him explain the concept behind harmonies, with the same enthusiasm you would expect from a child commenting on their favourite cartoon.

Jordan 'Jedani' Batts has fantasised about being a musician since his early days in high school.

"I can't see myself doing anything else," he told The Gleaner. Drawing his inspiration from musical legends such as Bob Marley, the up-and-comer is finally seeing his dreams come to reality.

Jedani describes his music as a fusion of dancehall and pop, which are the two genres he listens to most. The young talent also writes his own lyrics. He describes the process as being very raw and unrestrained, as he rarely uses pen and paper. He claims he generally listens to a rhythm and once he feels the vibe he then creates the melodies. The lyrics, he says, usually flow soon after.

Some might remember him from his Sumfest performance, which he said was a great experience. He gushed about the tremendous feedback he has received and exclaimed that he is truly humbled and grateful. He also recently performed at the Caribbean Model Search Runway Challenge competition where he also received a favourable response from the crowd.

The 22-year-old explained that his family supports his musical endeavours, but was quick to add this was not always the case.

"After seeing the response I got from Sumfest, they have been more supportive," he admitted.

Although he is not yet signed to any label, the young musician is still enthusiastic and hopeful that one day he will be given a chance to prove his worth. Until then, Jedani will hold firm to the maxim - patience is virtue.

As everyone who has made anything of themselves will tell you, the journey to the top is paved with many hardships. This is no different for Jedani.

"It's a lot more work than I thought...it's hard," he confessed.

"You just have to stay focused."

The budding artiste is currently working full time on his music in an effort to further hone his craft.

"I want to take my music to an international level ... MTV and BET is where I see myself in a couple years," he told The Gleaner with the utmost confidence.

The artiste describes himself as "not your typical artiste". He is confident that he has all that it takes to make it, not only on the local scene, but internationally as well. This confidence paired with his apparent drive and obvious talent makes Jedani a formidable force.
