Reno, SCA play to dull draw

It was a poor performance from both teams and in the end, perhaps the 0-0 scoreline at the end of the National Premier League contest between Reno and Sporting Central Academy at Frome in Westmoreland on Wednesday was the deserved result.

While neither team was able to celebrate a win after the final whistle, Sporting Central's assistant coach Nigel Stewart is satisfied with the results, pointing out his belief that a point away from home is always welcome.

"We came here to lock down Evan Taylor who is known to make good crosses for Reno, so even though we didn't score, we are thankful for the point because when you play away and get a point, it is always good for the team," Stewart said.

Banking on record

Wendell Downswell, technical director for Reno, who will play away to Humble Lion in their next assignment, is banking on a continuation of his team's away record. "We picked up six points on the road so playing in Clarendon should not be that tough. However, Humble Lion have a strong community spirit and they should put up a good fight, so all we have to do is work on our finishing because that is where we performed badly today," Downswell said.

He added that he is still trying to find the best combination on the offensive end to rack in the goals for his team, which has only managed to score four goals in the competition to date; a far cry from what the former national head coach is expecting from his frontmen.

Both teams will be hunting away wins on Sunday when Sporting Central Academy take on Montego Bay United in their round-seven assignment.
