Gregg's glory - Gore, Summerbell promise duels next year
While Kyle Gregg has accomplished his dream of becoming one of the country's youngest circuit-racing champion, Doug Gore and arch-rival David Summerbell have proposed to take their fierce rivalry on the track to another level next year.
"It is going to be hard and more competitive next year, but I will continue where I left off," said Summerbell, who is now preparing for the final leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship.
The 2011 circuit-racing season climaxed with excitement, drama, fun and laughter last Monday at Dover Raceway, St Ann, but was marred by an incident which has left a 10 year-old boy nursing injuries.
Charles Maxwell, Nigel Edwards, George Bayley, Teddy Burton, Tarik Minott, Lesgar Murdock and Vivian Mitchell entertained the thousands of die-hard motor-racing fans with their superb driving skills. Mitchell was named Rookie of the Year.
Exciting meet
Even with a crash involving Summerbell, plus the incident in which Troye Riley's car hit little Daniel Buchanan, the race meet lived up to expectations. Kyle Gregg was at his best, as was motorcyclist Stefan Chin.
But all eyes were glued to the battle between Gore and Summerbell, the latter tasting defeat for the second consecutive meet.
"This year, it was really hard for the team preparing for the Caribbean Championship and Dover. There was not enough time, plus the past two meets, we raced without having everything perfectly together," said Summerbell.
Gore, who is still celebrating, is happy that he has silenced the critics.
"After the race meet in Easter, most of the fans wrote me off and claimed that the Audi II was a bad choice for me and I could not beat David (Summerbell). We did what we had to do and things turned out great for me," said Gore, who is already looking forward to next year.
