Arnett, Highgate draw as well

Paul 'tegat' Davis left Lynch Park on Sunday somewhat relieved, after Arnett Gardens took a share of the points against home team Highgate United in their National Premier League encounter in Buff Bay, Portland.

Arnett played the last 30 minutes with 10 men as Richardo Smith was given his marching orders.

"Highgate played a flat style of football," commented Davis. "It was a tame first half, but there were some anxious moments for us in the second half."

The first half was poorly contested, with only Romeo Parkes of Highgate making any real impression for his team, after picking up a short pass from Severo Murphy. However, his shot was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper in the 14th minute.

At the other end, Newton Sterling's scorching free kick went straight to Highgate's custodian in the 43rd minute as Arnett Gardens looked to break the deadlock.

The second half saw both teams adopting a counter-attacking approach but poor finishing robbed either of the lead.

Highgate got the easier chance of the two and almost stole a win near the end, as in the 90th minute, Parkes got by three players inside Arnett's 18 yard box to set up a chance for team-mate Jerome Wedderburn. The latter, after collecting a short pass from Parkes, somehow placed his shot, which was taken close to the six-yard box, well wide of the goal.
