Bridging the gap - Event merges old with new

Lady Junie Platinum is making a bold step to fuse two generations of Jamaican music on the same stage, with the launch of her event, Old School Meets New School. According to the artiste, the youth need to know the foundation.
The launch was held on Wednesday at the Wyndham Kingston hotel and, by the huge turnout, it appears the upcoming event may be well attended.
"I came up with the concept because I am from the old school, and I don't know the young people, it shouldn't be that young artistes see the foundation artistes and don't recognise them ... so old school meets new school is like an introduction," she said.
The event, which will take the form of a stage show, will feature veterans such as George Nooks, Jimmy Riley, Macka Diamond and General Trees among others.
Those representing the new school will be the likes of Sizzla, Kip Rich and Beenie Man among others.
The event will also feature veteran selector Sky Juice of Metromedia, Black Katt, Rebel T and radio DJ Digital Criss.
Event organiser Stacey McDonald told The Gleaner even the fashion will represent two different generations, as persons are encouraged to dress old school or new school.
Both women said the event has been getting good response from the public, and pointed to the turnout at the launch as testament to the potential of the event.
Old School Meets New School will be held at the Constant Spring sports complex on December 17, 2011.
VIP Tickets cost $2,000 presold, $1000 at the gate and $1500 after 12 a.m.
Tickets can be purchased at Rebel T HQ, Richie B Gas Station and York Pharmacy.
