Arnett's Davis relieved

BUFF BAY, Portland:

Arnett Gardens head coach Paul 'Tegat' Davis left Lynch Park somewhat relieved on Sunday night after his team took a share of the points against home team Highgate United, in their National Premier League football encounter.

Davis' team played the latter part of the game with 10 men after Richardo Smith was red-carded at the 70th minute.

"Highgate played a flat style of football," commented Davis. "It was a tame first half, but there were some anxious moments for us in the second half. We lost a player midway into the second half, and I believe that the guys played well to secure a point."

Only Highate's Romeo Parkes made any real impression in a poor first half. Parkes, after picking up a short pass from Severo Murphy, hit a shot that was brilliantly saved in the 14th minute.

At the other end, Newton Sterling took one kick of note, but his scorching free kick went straight to the Highgate custodian in the 43rd minute.

The second half saw both teams counterattacking, but poor finishing robbed either of a goal.

"We should have won," said Highgate's assistant coach, Michael Smith. "After they (Arnett) lost a player (Richardo Smith) ... we showed signs of improvement in midfield. Our next game is away against Reno, and I believe we will give a better performance."
