Jamaica Youth Chorale hosts third concert
The highly acclaimed Jamaica Youth Chorale (JYC) will be staging its third annual flagship concert, Ancestor Voices, today at the University Chapel. The concert is a celebration of African retention and expression in sacred music and will feature Negro spirituals and Jamaican stylised choral arrangements in Revivalism and Rastafarianism, all in tribute to African ancestry.
Coming from the expanse of Jamaican culture with unique innovations, the chorale's repertoire is centred on Jamaican and Afrocentric expression.
The group presents members from across the island, ranging in age from 16-26 years. The Jamaica Youth Chorale is a member of the Jamaica Youth Advocacy Network.
Her Excellency Pamela E. Bridgewater, ambassador of the United States of America, will lead the list of guests expected to attend.
In a press release from the chorale, the group said: "It is the relentless endeavour of the chorale to continuously give soul-stirring, awe-inspiring and unforgettable performances to our audiences everywhere. This concert will prove to be, as always, an unforgettable choral experience."
The concert begins at 5 p.m.
