ONLINE FEEDBACK

Excerpts of responses to yesterday's Gleaner lead story, 'Vaz talks tough'.

Minister Vaz should have a clear definition of what is the 'public sector' and start by rationalising the Government's motor vehicles and the use of such vehicles, especially those without the official government licence plates. This, of course, would include the use and conservation of petrol.

He could also try to sell, dump or scrap the hundreds of government vehicles parked all over the island rotting and providing houses for rats and other insects and occupying valuable parking spaces.

The first government official Mr Vaz should crack the whip at is the person at the helm of the Registrar General's Department.

Vaz, public perception of you was always negative. You have nothing to lose now, so impress us and we will see how things go from there. This is your chance for a second impression.

Vaz seems to have the right ideas, but he is going to face huge problems. The system is set up and run the way it is to support corruption, bribes and kickbacks. This is how the money is made.

Public-sector efficiency and doing business with GOJ agencies must be made simpler.

I like Daryl Vaz's no-nonsense style to management. He is a solid go-getter and will invariably get the job done. An excellent choice by Mr Holness.

The Jamaican Government needs this type of solution to resolve cantankerous interpersonal relations that capsize any meaningful business arrangements. With this new arrangement, business people don't have to deal with government employees who don't know anything more than their paycheques. Gwaan een deh, Daryl, do your job and fire those who are causing hold-ups.

- Beresford Davidson

Don't just talk, do it. Get tough with the civil servants who are not doing their jobs because some of them have some ideas towards the Opposition. You are the one who should get rid of the red tape which is keeping people from investing in Jamaica.

Daryl's laundry list

Jamaica's public sector has been dogged by a reputation of lethargy, inefficiency and bureaucracy.

Send us your recommendations to Daryl Vaz, the Government's new drill sergeant-in-chief, who has been given the job to get the public sector on its toes.
